Based in East London’s South Woodford, our Indian restaurant is inspired by the chronicled stretch of land built for traders in the 16th century. Rajesh Suri’s Grand Trunk Road is a culinary dedication to a historical staple of the varied flavours of Indian history. Formerly of Mayfair’s Tamarind, as well as Imli and Zaika, legendary restaurateur Rajesh Suri has once again teamed up with Head Chef Dayashankar Sharma to devise an offering that boasts an exquisite plethora of regional dishes prepared authentically, with an appreciation for traditional cooking methods…

(1467-MAY 1543)

Rajesh Suri and Dayashankar Sharma travelled the breadth of the Grand Trunk Road to experience all the culinary delights that the regions have to offer. Upon their return, they sought a way in which to bring the delicacies of the authentic traditional cuisine to the UK. Each dish reflects the diversity of the towns along the Grand Trunk Road, ranging from the chargrilled flavours of Peshawar and Rawalpindi, the fried fish of Punjab, to the kebabs and biriyanis of Awadhi. Vegetarian options hail from the region of Varanasi and provide a lusciously fragrant take on healthy eating. Devised of evocative and deeply delicious items, Grand Trunk Road stands as a mouthwatering introduction to the extensive array of historical Indian delights and displays a commitment to high standards, quality, and consistency

Warmly decorated with copper and chocolate tones, Grand Trunk Road incorporates traditional Indian wall panels with rustic, beaten copper hanging lights. Plush sofas and a large booth area offers premium comfort for larger bookings, whilst the bar offers an opulent range of impressive cocktails and a hand-selected list of wines that compliment each dish to perfection.

Visited on a Sunday night. The restaurant was busy. This was some of the best Indian food I have ever tasted. Would highly recommend the lamb chops and squid. The service was top notch and the India cocktail was amazing.
